Why Public Education is Broken and Larry Arnn is Right: A Teacher's Perspective

Let’s be honest – public schools don’t like charter schools because public schools don’t like competition. And if we are being fair, it is a competition that is imperfect because charter schools are not necessarily tied to the same requirements and academic standards that public schools are tied to.

Let’s be honest – public schools don’t like charter schools because public schools don’t like competition. And if we are being fair, it is a competition that is imperfect because charter schools are not necessarily tied to the same requirements and academic standards that public schools are tied to. Charter schools have more freedom and public schools don’t.

But that goes directly to Dr. Arnn’s point – the system is broken because it is wedded too much to the system. Public education officials are not upset because they want the freedom charter schools enjoy; they are upset because they want charter schools (if they even want them at all) to be tied to the same overweight, overbearing system that they have operated under for the last century.
